North Stars’ second period push enough to down Mustangs

Make it three times now over the past nine days that the North Stars defeated the Melfort Mustangs.

Tuesday’s 3-1 victory at the Civic Centre follows Saturday’s 4-0 thumping, which in turn was just six days after last Saturday’s 4-0 shutout win.

North Stars down to 2 goaltenders

The North Stars had a deal in place to send goaltender Ryan Rewerts to the Valley Wildcats of the Maritime Hockey League, but Rewerts has decided not to report to the Berwick, N.S. team, and will stop playing junior A hockey instead.

North Stars penalty kill struggles in loss to Millionaires

Head coach Nate Bedford called the North Stars effort in their two SJHL showcase games “night and day.”

He wouldn’t be wrong.

On Sunday night, they dominated the defending champion Melfort Mustangs 4–0 and outshot them 44-16.

North Stars expect to score by committee in 2016-17

Last year’s Battlefords North Stars won three quarters of their games over the course of a 58-game season, something many fans would consider superb.

They had three of the league’s top-10 scorers on their team, Igor Leonenko, Layne Young, and Coby Downs, another exceptional feat.

“Why did you choose hockey as a kid?”

For him, and many other Saskatchewan kids, it’s just the natural thing to do.
