Jul 12, 2018 | 10:47 AM

Twenty-two First Responders involved with the April 6th Humboldt Broncos bus crash were honored to be guests of the Calgary Stampede and Parade July 5th – 7th.

The First Responders that traveled to Calgary were members of Tisdale, Nipawin and Zenon Park Fire Departments, Nipawin, Smeaton, Carrot River, and Melfort RCMP Detachments, and Tisdale, Nipawin, Melfort and Zenon Park EMS. The First Responders and their spouses were provided with the all-expense paid trip courtesy of the Calgary Stampede, with flights compliments of WestJet.

July 6th began with limos waiting to take everyone to breakfast with the Calgary Stampede President David Sibbald. This was followed by the 106th Stampede Parade in which the First Responders participated to rousing cheers along the entire parade route. The remainder of the day was spent enjoying the sights and sounds of the Stampede Park, and the afternoon and evening rodeos and grandstand shows.

The Nipawin Fire Department extends a sincere Thank You of appreciation to the Calgary Stampede for the honor of participating in, experiencing and enjoying the Stampede, WestJet for the flights, and for the excellent service at the Coast Plaza Hotel, where we were pleased to learn that one of the front desk receptionists was from Carrot River.

Prior to the parade start, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley (centre of photo) greeted and thanked the First Responders and joined them for a photo.
