To keep all 112 rooms at the Gold Eagle Lodge in immaculate condition, it takes more than just hard work.
It takes people who care.
Gail Tooley, the executive housekeeper at Gold Eagle Lodge, believes the right staff is what sets them apart.
"I’ve worked at many hotels and this is definitely the best staff I’ve ever worked with," Tooley said. "They really care about what they’re doing and when they walk out of those rooms, they’re beautiful. They look great. Just when you open the door, you can feel the greatness of the room and the care that everyone has taken to make that room look so beautiful.”
There are 16 associates whose dedication to the job is second to none.
Every single room is checked, whether it is occupied or vacant, every single day. And things are monitored by not just a room checker, but Tooley herself, her assistant and a supervisor.
On Expedia.ca, Gold Eagle Lodge has a 4.8 rating out of 5 for room cleanliness and a 4.6 for room comfort. On Booking.com, it has a nine out of 10 for cleanliness. And on Trip Advisor, the gold standard for hotel reviews, Gold Eagle Lodge has a 4.5 rating out of 5.
"Our goal is to be the best hotel in North Battleford...and when we do our interview process, we make sure that the answers that they’re giving us are the people that we’re looking for. The ones that have the same goals," Tooley said. "This is their home away from home. The [cleaning staff are] proud to be here.”
What's also instilled from day one of training is a to be open and friendly to every single guest.
Tooley said it shows.
"You walk in the door, everybody has always got a smile on their face," she said. "They’ll greet you. It doesn’t matter if you’re walking down the hallway or you’re out in the parking lot. We’ll greet you, we’ll ask you how you are and ask if there’s anything we can do for you.”
"Our clean team, which is behind the scenes, typically don’t get the acknowledgement that most businesses get," Gold Eagle Lodge general manager Warren Berg added. "But they see the customer sometimes more than the guest service agent does, so they’re involved."
With that kind of care and dedication, it's no wonder the public voted the Gold Eagle Lodge number one in house cleaning.
