Best Hotel/Motel: Gold Eagle Lodge

Sep 20, 2017 | 9:00 PM

When you’re awarded a certificate of excellence from Trip Advisor — the leading player in online reviews — seven straight years, you’re doing something right.

Five years in a row gets you in the Hall of Fame, but the Gold Eagle Lodge has received the recognition in all seven years the certificate has been awarded.

So when they heard they were voted the best hotel in North Battleford in the Best of the Best awards, the staff at Gold Eagle Lodge felt a sense of pride yet again.

“The staff here in the hotel: the guest service team at the front end, the clean team, my sales team, and my management team, we wake up every day to try to continue the legacy of being the best hotel in town,” Gold Eagle Lodge general manager Warren Berg said. “It is nice to have that acknowledgement. It just confirms in our mind, we’re doing the right thing.”

Gold Eagle Lodge opened in 2006 but if feels much newer than that, thanks to a $1.8 million renovation in the summer of 2016.

With 112 rooms, ranging from double rooms, family suites, executive suites and a beautiful two-storey penthouse suite, the 55 full-time employees have a lot of work to do to ensure the upkeep of the hotel is top notch.

“We take care of the property from a maintenance side like it’s a brand new property. It’s 10 years old, but you wouldn’t know it to see it,” Berg said. “The word maintenance has the word ‘maintain’ in it. And all too often, you can have a busy place, but if you’re not maintaining it, the customer is going to see that in the product.”

Whether you’re using Trip Advisor, any other online review site, or even the old-school CAA book, the reviews prove that Gold Eagle Lodge truly cares about their customers as well. Again and again, they go above and beyond, which isn’t surprising, given their goal for constant improvement.

“We constantly analyze our customer feedback, both on Trip Advisor, Google Reviews, Bookings.com, all the online applications,” Berg said. “We constantly take those, respond to those in a very, very timely manner and take the constructive criticism we receive from customers to try to build a better product.”

The hotel also knows the importance of being involved in community events.

Berg admits it has a financial toll, but being involved and giving back is one of their core philosophies.

“We’re heavily involved in a lot of fundraising events in the community,” Berg said. “It’s maintaining those partnerships in the community, whether it be the Battleford Hotel Association, the local chamber of commerce, being involved with different fundraisers from Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation, Battlefords Humane Society, to different cultural and sport events. Being involved in local community initiatives is important in maintaining your footprint within the community.”
