SIIT Career Centre Battlefords planning grand opening at new location

Jan 18, 2019 | 9:26 AM

The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) Career Centre Battlefords is proud to be starting the new year in a bright new facility.

The institute recently moved into a new location at 1301 101 Street in North Battleford, and will have a grand opening next month to celebrate.

“We’re leasing a section of the building on the main floor which was all newly renovated,” manager Paul Ledoux said, adding the organization moved into the new space on Jan. 2. “It’s awesome. It’s exciting to be in such a beautiful facility.”

Ledoux said the former location at 1291 102 Street was getting to be a bit small for the needs of the career centre.

“We just moved locations,” he said of the 10-year-old business. “We needed a bigger space because our client intake is huge.”

The new facility will add roughly 500 square feet to the operation.

SIIT provides various training sessions, resources, job postings and career connections at its site to help individuals seeking employment.

Ledoux said the organization offers a range of training, including skills for work in the trades, such as the Construction Worker Preparation program and the Automotive Service Preparation program, as well as First Aid and CPR training, as a few examples. He said a number of instructors come to the centre. SIIT also works with other partners to provide training for individuals, depending on the need.

Ledoux added the organization will continue to offer all the same services at the new location as it provided at the former site.

Ledoux said the local SIIT’s main funding source is the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with refreshments is planned at the new location on Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m.
