Update: Arrest made in connection to counterfeit currency

Nov 7, 2018 | 7:44 AM

Charges are pending against a 64-year-old man from North Battleford in connection to counterfeit currency circulating around the city.

RCMP said they were called after a man was caught trying to pass two $100 bills at a local business Wednesday afternoon. The bills had matching serial numbers and the colour was off.

“At this point, it is believed that the denominations being counterfeited are $100 and $50 bills,” the RCMP said in a release while asking the public to be on the lookout for all denominations authenticity.

Earlier today, police said phoney $50 and $100 bills have been circulating in the Battlefords, and in one complaint, two male suspects went to businesses and attempted to buy small items with large denomination currency. Those bills were of poor quality, and the businesses noticed before the sale was complete.
