Beavers look to clinch tonight in Unity

Jul 17, 2018 | 8:00 AM

It’s a big night for the North Battleford Beavers, as they hope to reach the second round of the playoffs with a win in Unity.

The team travels up tonight to take on the Cardinals after last Thursday’s thrilling 7-6 walk-off win at home against the Unity team. In that game, Unity jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first inning but the Beavers were able to load the bases in the seventh and final inning, with Aaron Cadrain knocking a sacrifice fly into the outfield scoring Ryan Shepherd in from third.

The Cardinals are the defending league champions after they knocked off the Border City Blue Jays in 2017. The Beavers are trying to avenge their 2017 elimination loss.

This season, both Unity and North Battleford had identical 9-5 records in the regular season, with the Beavers finishing fourth and Unity fifth. If the Beavers aren’t able to get the win tonight, they will return home tomorrow for a winner-take-all game three at Beaver Lions Stadium at 7:30.

Border City is also in Silver Lake tonight to take on the Lakers at 7:30. That series has Border City up 1-0 after a win in extras on July 12.

Around the NSRBL, last night the Wilkie Brewers downed the Meadow Lake Sox by a score of 10-2, ending the Sox’ season after a two-game sweep. Meadow Lake finished the season in third, while Wilkie was sixth.

Also last night, The Lloydminster Twins ended St. Walburg’s season following a 3-0 win. St. Walburg finished in eighth in the league and stole game one of the series 2-1. They followed that up with a 6-2 loss last Thursday and with last night’s win, the Twins clinched the berth in the second round.
