Suspect who allegedly threatened store employee with knife arrested

A man who allegedly threatened a store employee with a knife after stealing from a business is now in police custody. 

According to Battlefords RCMP, the 34-year-old suspect was arrested without incident in North Battleford shortly after 7 p.m. July 14. The RCMP said the lone male suspect was seen stealing items from a business on North Territorial Dr. in the early afternoon of July 11, and when he was confronted outside the store by an employee, the suspect allegedly threatened the worker with a knife before fleeing on a bicycle. No one was hurt during the altercation, police said.

The suspect is now facing charges of theft under $5,000 and assault with a weapon. He is facing an additional charge of theft under $5,000 in connection with a separate incident at a business on East Territorial Dr. on the evening of July 14. The suspect was scheduled to appear in North Battleford provincial court at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

The accused is presumed innocent at this stage.
