Jul 5, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Local area motorcyclists are invited to shine up their ride and come out to the annual Canadian Legion of Riders Charity Poker Rally on Saturday, July 14 in North Battleford.

The Ride for a Vet event, in its 16th year raises money to support area veterans in need.

Gord Hildebrand, President of the Battlefords branch of the Canadian Legion of Riders, said he expects another huge turnout for the event.

“Our Charity Poker Run has always had great support,” Hildebrand said. “We average about 200 bikes every year so it’s a great event for the region to host.”

A breakfast and registration begins July 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #70 in North Battleford on 100 St. with the run beginning at 11 a.m.

Hildebrand added all funds go to veterans and veteran-related organizations in the area.

“In the past we have supported to the local air and army cadets,” he added. “We have also been focused on completing work on unmarked graves for veterans and now that we have finished we want to do more for those vets that need some assistance.”

Following the poker rally, the Canadian Legion of Riders presents Rockin’ the Rink in Meota featuring live music with the Bush Pies and Rosetta at the arena. Doors open at 8 p.m. and you must be 19 years of age to attend.
