Two area RMs step up to support Sask. Hospital campaign

Jul 4, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Two area municipalities stepped up to give the Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford New Beginnings fundraising campaign a boost with a total donation of over $101,000, helping bring the total funds raised a little closer to the $8 million campaign goal.

The Rural Municipality of Battle River contributed $50,000, while the Rural Municipality of North Battleford donated $51,138.

The campaign supports the New Beginnings fundraiser to purchase essential medical equipment and furnishings for the new Saskatchewan Hospital being constructed in North Battleford.

“Our thanks to the RMs for donating and recognizing our cause,” Corinne Bernier Delainey, New Beginnings campaign lead, said. “We are extremely grateful for their wonderful generosity.”

“Every little bit at this point is going to make a big difference,” she added. “We’re in the final stretch of this campaign. Having the support of the local municipalities it’s so wonderful for us, and having them recognize the impact that our hospital makes on this community.”

She added the Saskatchewan Hospital is one of the largest employers in the local community, with more than 300 employees, so that has a significant impact on the local economy.

“Over $17 million in annual salaries comes back into the Battlefords each and every year,” Bernier Delainey added.

Supporting mental health is also a priority for everyone, locally and across the province, said the campaign lead.

Donations reaching goal

“We are about 89 per cent of the way to our goal,” Bernier Delainey said. “We’re getting very close.”

While the recent donation for the Saskatchewan Hospital campaign has come from local area municipalities, the campaign has raised funds from many municipalities from throughout Saskatchewan.

“Ninety-five per cent of all the money we’ve raised to date has come from around the province, not directly from the Battlefords,” Bernier Delainey said. “It’s been wonderful to see that outpouring of support from the entire province.”
