Community Players looking for help for new season

Jul 4, 2018 | 2:00 PM

If you’re looking to get involved with a community organization, the Battlefords Community Players are holding the door open for you.

The 66-year-old club is looking for new members and patrons to help with a variety of different elements heading into their 2018-19 season. They will be holding an open house on July 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at night at 102-26th Street in Battleford.

Donna Challis, executive producer of the theatre group said the open house is to encourage those who previously expressed interest.

“We always feel like we hear about people wanting to help out after the fact,” she said. “We thought, let’s have an open house, get people to come talk about our season and come and see if joining the club is something they want to do. Acting is just a small portion of what we do. People just have that fear of coming in the door the first time.”

There are a variety of different positions that the club is looking for people to help out with.

“We need people that can help build sets, sew, paint the sets, build props, need hosts and hostesses, run the bar when we have the event,” Challis said. “There’s an awful lot that’s involved, you may see five people on stage but there’s usually eight to 10 behind the scenes.”

Challis said this opportunity is something people shouldn’t pass up on, and that everyone has to start somewhere.

“We all started with a first, all of us walked in the door not knowing anybody,” she said. “You build friendships, so give it a try, come on out, somebody will say hello to you and you’ll have a great time.”

The club is still looking for actors, and will be opening with a show called Goodbye to the Clown, then Love Letters, followed by A Comedy of Tenors, and after Christmas The Tin Woman.
