Battlefords Senior Soccer league getting ready for changes

Jul 2, 2018 | 9:54 AM

The Adult Soccer League is new and revamped this year.

Within the next few days, registration will start up for the league which will be done online for the 2018 season. There will be options of co-ed and gendered, which will be getting started around mid-July.

Kat Huxley, Competitive Co-ordinator for Youth Soccer in North Battleford said she is excited for the upcoming season and the changes that it will bring.

“It gives people a chance for parents to play with their kids when they’re older,” Huxley said. “Coaches get the chance to play with kids they used to coach; you get to play with your friends and family. Playing co-ed is new, and super exciting. A board member is working with Sask. Soccer to have our registration online.”

People will be able to register from home, and pay over e-transfer for league and team fees for the season. Huxley said if you’re on the fence, it’s a welcoming environment.

“If you’ve never played before, it’s a very welcoming environment,” she said. “I play in the women’s league and I’ve never felt out of place. If you’ve played before, and you’re on the fence of getting back into it, do it. There’s nothing stopping you, it’s something to keep you physically fit and get out there and meet new people.”

Moving into next year, the Battlefords Soccer Association has applied and hopes to get Adult Provincials in August of 2019.

“Hopefully we can get a bunch of teams and a bunch of adults playing this year so that next year when we do host we can enter a couple teams,” Huxley said. “I’ve played on a team and played in adult provincials two years in a row. We’ve also had men’s teams in the past as well. Hopefully we can get that bid together and get that here next year for adults instead of youth.”
