Captain Harvey has Montreal walking the plank

Jun 30, 2018 | 8:00 AM

The Riders are back at home this week, as they take on the Montreal Alouettes.

The Alouettes come into Mosaic winless, losing their first game in BC 22-10 and getting thumped 56-10 at home against the Bombers. The Riders are 1-1 after a 7-19 home win against Toronto, then losing in Ottawa 40-17 against the RedBlacks.

There are tons of question marks on both sides of the ball heading into the tilt, mainly with the Riders quarterback position. After losing starter Zach Collaros to a concussion last week, the Riders called upon Brandon Bridge who didn’t fare well in the game against the RedBlacks.

Riders super fan and North Battleford resident Captain Harvey Rider said he is still optimistic heading into week three.

“I think we’ve got a hot team that needs to do some meshing and there is some work to be done but it is still early in the season,” he said. “I think we’ve got all the right parts and the pieces. The last game, the same team didn’t show up that was there in week one.”

The inconsistency has been a big issue following the first two games the Riders had some fans worrying.

“The O-line really needs to get their act together,” Harvey said. “They’ve got the players there, but they have to mesh. They haven’t been consistent; they’ve had their ups and downs.”

As for this week though, Montreal has shown thus far that they are one of, if not the weakest team in the league. And that may help the Riders, the super fan said.

“For the next game, I believe that nothing is ever an easy win, you never know, but were the home team and I think it will be a fairly easy win with Brandon (Bridge) in. He proved himself last season and saved us a few times,” he said.

As for Captain Harvey’s keys to the game, he believes it will be pretty straight forward to come out of it with a win.

“We can’t be overconfident; that’s never good for a team,” he said. “Montreal wants to come in, and their motivated and haven’t been doing well. They’re going to try and make a point like they did last season in the first game. Our O-line has to give more protection. We need Duron (Carter) on offense and we need to get that offense back on track.”

The game time is at 7 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium, but fans are asked to be in their seats by 6:45 p.m. for a pre-game ceremony honouring the Humboldt Broncos. Along with the ceremony, every team in the CFL will be wearing “Humboldt Strong” decals on their helmets this week.

The pregame starts at 4 p.m. with play-by-play set for kick-off. You can listen to the game on CJNB and CJNS on the Roughriders Radio Network.
