Dekker Centre has a new general manager

Jun 28, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The Dekker Centre’s board announced Kali Weber was selected as the new general manager for the performing arts centre, starting Aug. 20.

Weber will be replacing Moe McGuinty, who is retiring after serving in the position for the past six years, since the facility opened.

The new general manager said she is looking forward to taking on her new role.

“I am beyond excited to be in this position,” she said. “It’s an incredible honour to come back to North Battleford and continue to work in this community.”

Weber returned to North Battleford recently, and is the current festival producer and co-chair of the North Battleford International Street Performer Festival this year. She also chaired the street festival last year in N.B., and previously worked for the City of St. Albert’s Children’s Festival after completing a diploma in Arts and Cultural Management at MacEwan University in Edmonton. Weber is also a former drama teacher at North Battleford Comprehensive High School.

She said she will be training with McGuinty in July before starting her new role at the Dekker Centre the following month.

Dekker Centre Board Chair Debbie Logan said the board received many applications for the position of general manager and had the “daunting task” of finding a replacement to fill McGuinty’s shoes. She said the board chose Weber after the long selection process, deciding she was the best person for the role.

“We’re all happy to have her joining us,” Logan said.

The chair said the board appreciated Weber for her ideas as well as her local connections in the community. The board also recognized her qualifications, Logan said, which made her the best candidate for the position.

“Being from North Battleford, knowing that she has been working with a performing arts centre in St. Albert, and that she has some education to go along with it … She is more than qualified to take on the job,” Logan said.
