MP Falk’s office officially opens to constituents

Jun 27, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Constituents in the federal riding of the Battlefords now have a place where they can voice their concerns with their Member of Parliament.

Rosemarie Falk, who was elected almost seven months ago, officially opened her constituency office at 1322 100th St. Tuesday afternoon with an open house. Falk said she was encouraged by the turnout.

“It’s nice to see this many people show up,” Falk said. “I want people to know that our doors are open and I want to hear what is on their minds, good or bad.”

Throughout the afternoon, the rookie Conservative MP answered questions from residents on a variety of topics while giving tours of the new office.

“I think the hot-button topics right now are, of course, the legalization of cannabis and the carbon tax,” she said. “Both are real concerns in the area and people want their opinions known.”

With the House of Commons now on its summer break, Falk said it’s shaping up to be a very busy summer for her within her riding.

“The House recessed last week, and already it’s been a whirlwind for us,” Falk said. “I got home on Wednesday from Ottawa and visited stakeholders the past few days, plus opened my office in Lloydminster Monday, so yes it’s been busy.”

Falk said she will be spending Canada Day in Lloydminster, but added she will make it a priority to alternate between locations within her riding each year.

“It’s a huge riding; I think it is around 30,000 square kilometres,” she noted. ”However, I am really committed to meeting as many people as I can over the next few months.”

Falk’s new North Battleford office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
