Three fires keep Battlefords firefighters busy

Three fires within a 48-hour period kept firefighters in the Battlefords busy over the past two days.

Members of the North Battleford Fire Department were called to a structure fire at a commercial building on 102nd St. at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Three pumpers, three utility vehicles, and 13 firefighters were on the scene along with members of the RCMP, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, and paramedics from WPD Ambulance.

It took crews more than five hours to control and extinguish the fire. The blaze was contained in a garage area that sustained extensive damage to both the building and its contents.

Fire officials were also called to a pair of fires early Tuesday morning. The first was another structure fire on 111th St. which broke out when a fire started in a half-ton truck and spread to a detached double garage. The truck was underneath power supply lines, which caused a power outage for the block. RCMP, WPD paramedics, and SaskPower assisted the 14 firefighters on the scene.
