Local Canada Day festivities are set to go

Jun 25, 2018 | 2:00 PM

With Canada Day just around the corner, many towns, parks, and RMs are getting set to host festivities.

At the Glenburn Regional Park, Canada Day festivities continue to grow each and every year. Tanya Delainey, Canada Day co-ordiator told battlefordsNOW what will be going on at the park near Maymont.

“Around 11 we start the kids’ program with a scavenger hunt,” she said. “Throughout the day there will be face painting, crafts, and colouring contests for the children.”

The fun and games will continue as the day progresses, she said, including a wheelbarrow race, egg toss, and slip-and-slides.

Fireworks begin at dusk, and Delainey said they’re hoping for a great turnout.

There will be a pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m. in Wilkie at the museum, kids’ games activities from 1 to 3:30, and the Grasshopper Drop at 4. Phil Heilman said the main event they will be having in the town will feature animal performers.

“Four Diamond Kennels out of Unity will be bringing some of their show dogs to come and do a little show for the people of Wilkie during the noon hour,” Heilman said. “The Citizens on Patrol of Wilkie will be doing a barbecue with the dog show, so people can come and have a burger then come watch a dog show.”

In Picnic Lake, they will be holding a pancake breakfast from 8-10, an Old Time Softball Game at 3, and local musician Laney Blanchette will perform on the drums at 6, with fireworks at dusk.

North Battleford will have its own fireworks display, starting at 10:45 on King Hill right above Destination Battleford.
