Four-screen theatre construction underway in N.B.

May 23, 2018 | 10:00 AM

There is lots of commotion in downtown North Battleford this week as workers start construction on the city’s new four-screen cinema.

The sight is something moviegoers in the North Battleford area have been waiting for since February of 2017, when Magic Lantern Theatres announced it was purchasing property in the city to construct the brand-new movie theatre. The plan was originally to make the new building a five-screen cinema, but that was before Magic Lantern’s acquisition of Capitol Theatre. The newly-renovated single-screen theatre will serve as screen one on its own, and the other four screens will be in the separate building across the street at 1091 101st St.

Just last week, the City of North Battleford announced it had signed a contract with Magic Lantern Theatre Ltd. allowing the new project to begin. The city sold the land to Magic Lantern for $1 and, in accordance with its original agreement, the city will build a 175-stall parking lot in the northwest corner of the property.
