CCR tribute band coming to Dekker Centre

Apr 30, 2018 | 1:40 PM

The Dekker Centre will be transformed into a giant Wurlitzer jukebox this Sunday evening as fans of Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) will step back in time with Travellin’ Band, a four-piece band based out of Manitoba paying tribute to the group and its music.

From the late-60s to the early-70s many of the bands hits were released. This included Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Proud Mary and Born on the Bayou with the unique roots, folk, and blues sound called by many in the music industry as “swamp rock”.

Jason Kane of Travellin’ Band said he rediscovered CCR’s music by accident while visiting his brother.

“I found an old cassette of CCR in my brother’s garage,” said Kane. “I dusted it off threw it the tape deck in my car and the music just struck a chord with me.”

Kane was so intrigued with the sound of the group that he decided that he and a group of very talented musician would form a CCR tribute band paying homage to the band that was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

“There was just something about that sound, that John Fogerty voice and those lyrics that resonate with audiences to this day,” he added. “I’ve played these songs maybe hundreds of times and I never get tired of them.”

Ironically, despite having as many iconic hits such as Looking Out My Back Door, Have You Ever Seen The Rain and Down on The Corner; the group never had a number one hit on Billboard’s charts.

“You could say technically that they never had a number one hit, however if ask anyone who has ever enjoyed CCR’s music and they are certainly number one in everyone’s heart,” Kane added.

Since forming Travellin’ Band nearly 10 years ago the band has had a number of variations to its lineup however this current group has been together for the past three years and Kane feels this maybe the most talented group of musicians yet.

“This group of guys are the best we have had in Travellin’ Band by far, said Kane. “We have had so many compliments on our act in recent years that it’s appreciated.”

Travellin’ Band takes to the Dekker Centre stage Sunday evening at 8 p.m.
