Sask. brewmaster hired for new N.B. micro-brewery

North Battleford’s new microbrewery will have some local flavour as the owners hired a Saskatchewan native to be its brewmaster.

There is no set date to open as the building still needs work and the brewery itself still needs to be assembled, but according to co-owner Brennan Lampitt, the man in charge of creating the beer recipes is now on the team.

“We were interviewing people from all around the world,” Lampitt said. “The one that really struck our eye was a gentleman from Saskatchewan by the name of Logan Dommett. He helped with another brewery in Beaumont, Alberta, but he wanted to come back home as he is a Sask. boy and wanted to bring the craft beer world to Saskatchewan.”

Lampitt said Dommett, originally from Major, Sask. was the exact brewmaster the owners envisioned.

“We wanted someone from the area who has a great understanding of the Saskatchewan people and what Saskatchewan beer drinkers enjoy,” Lampitt said.

As for the establishment, the brewery will be located in the old armory building on 102 Street and will include a tasting room only according to Lampitt. He said people will be able to come in and try the different types of beers and then purchase them in bulk for home consumption.

“We’ll have snacks I suppose, but we won’t have a full menu. We will also have early closing hours, so it won’t be a place where you stay out all night drinking, but definitely a place where you can come and try a beer,” he said.

Lampitt said he couldn’t give any guarantees on an official opening date, but said ownership hopes to open to the public sometime over the summer with potentially four different microbrews to choose from.
