Expanded health clinic in Cut Knife to provide wider range of services

Mar 2, 2018 | 11:00 AM

The people of Cut Knife will have much better access to healthcare with the newly renovated Primary Health Centre (PHC), according to health officials.

The new facility, an expansion of the old clinic within the Cut Knife Health Complex, officially opened Wednesday with an open house. According to Charlotte Hamilton, director of primary health services in North Battleford, the new facility is more than three times larger than the original centre.

“Patient access to services at the new Primary Health Centre is nearly doubled, with PHC hours expanded to five days a week,” Hamilton said.

The new hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the centre will be closed one Friday a month.

According to Hamilton, physician services are available at the new PHC two days a week, by alternating doctors from North Battleford. The new facility includes three patient examination rooms, private physician and nurse practitioner spaces for counselling, visiting mental health counsellors, chronic disease management professionals, nutrition specialists, public health nurses and home care nurses. The PHC also offers patients better access to consultations with specialists and educational sessions over the phone, reducing travel for patients.
