Construction on new cinema could start in April

If all goes to plan a land deal could be approved this month with shovels in the ground by April for the new four screen theatre in North Battleford.

According to Magic Lantern, which bought and renovated the single screen Capitol Theatre last spring, the deal should be presented to council at the next meeting on Feb. 26. If approved, construction should begin in April.

The building was originally supposed to be erected last summer, but the ground tested positive for contaminates and had to be put on hold until further testing of the surrounding lots on King Street Station was completed.

Originally the plan was to make the new building a five screen cinema, but that was before Magic Lantern’s acquisition of Capitol Theatre. The newly renovated single screen theatre will serve as screen one on its own. The other four screens will be in the separate building right across the street.
