Shamrockin’ comedy night has distinctive Saskatchewan flavour

Feb 8, 2018 | 1:00 PM

The beer may be green and the atmosphere will be Irish however there will be a distinct Saskatchewan flavour to the annual Shamrockin’ Comedy Night presented by the Battlefords United Way (BUW) on Saturday, March 17 at the Don Ross Centre.

The event is one of two major fundraisers for the BUW this year with all funds raised going to support the member agencies which they serve including the Battlefords Boys and Girls Club, Battlefords and Area Sexual Assault Centre, the Battlefords Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Battleford Trade and Education Centre and the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre.

“We are very excited to be hosting another Shamrockin’ Comedy night this year,” Jennifer Rooke of the Battlefords United Way said. “It was a huge success last year and with this year’s lineup it’s going to be even bigger.”

Saskatchewan’s own Kelly Taylor will headline the evening with his unique blend of comedy that has made him a favourite on the comedy circuit. The Prince Albert native has appeared in comedy clubs across Canada and in New York and Los Angeles and finished second in the prestigious Just for Laughs Homegrown Comedy competition beating out performers with over 10 years of comedy experience.

“I’ve had the great fortune of seeing Kelly (Taylor) before and he is fantastic,” Rooke added. “He is definitely very relevant and he understands Saskatchewan as well.”

Following Taylor’s performance, popular group Stereo Playground will fill the dance floor with music every age group can enjoy.

Rooke said last year’s event was almost sold out and advised to get tickets now.

“If you get your tickets in advance they are just $25 or $30 at the door,” she added. “A table of eight is just $180 if you want to get a group of friends together and come join the fun.”
