Overdrive Project results in charges and warnings

Nov 28, 2017 | 4:00 PM

Battlefords RCMP continued their crackdown on drivers who fail to obey the law this past weekend.

On Friday night, RCMP conducted an SGI Overdrive Project with a stationary check stop on Highway 40 west of Battleford. Roughly 200 vehicles were checked for valid driver’s licences, vehicle registrations, and sobriety. A similar operation was conducted later in the Town of Battleford.

As a result of the project, several vehicles were towed. Several tickets were issued for driving with a suspended licence, and impaired driving by both alcohol and drugs.

In late October, Battleford RCMP conducted a combined traffic and safety initiative which caught 422 individuals during the week long project. Police conducted periodic check stops and roving traffic patrols throughout the community.
