Finning Cat closing Battleford location Dec. 1

Nov 24, 2017 | 1:08 PM

The Town of Battleford received some bad economic news this week with the announcement that Finning Cat on the Yellowhead Highway will be shutting down its operation after just two years in business.

Finning Cat, a division of Finning International Inc., is the world’s largest Caterpillar dealer with locations in B.C. Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Kelly Vail, senior public relations advisor with Finning said the decision to close the operation was based on a number of factors.

“We made our decision after examining both the current and the anticipated future business activity in the Battlefords,” Vail said. “The business volume in the area is just not sufficient to support the size and the scope of the facility.”

Vail did say that five resident technicians and sales staff will remain in the Battlefords to service existing clients however the bulk of the operation is being moved to its Saskatoon facility.

She added Finning Cat is doing its best to retain as many of the remaining 19 employees as possible.

“We have the capacity in our other locations to employ many of the Battlefords staff,” Vail said. “We have encouraged our employees to pursue those opportunities with Finning.”

The Finning Cat location in Battleford is scheduled to close Dec. 1.
