Last week’s combined traffic and community safety initiative in the Battleford area is being heralded as a success by the local RCMP detachment.

The project was a joint effort between the Battlefords RCMP and the Saskatoon branch of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) unit and targeted traffic enforcement by conducting periodic check stops and roving traffic patrols throughout the community.

Cpl. James Fenrich of the Battleford RCMP reported there were 422 traffic violations during the week long initiative with 177 traffic tickets issued including 14 suspended/no driver’s license, 19 unregistered vehicle violations, 32 speeding tickets, 20 cell phone usage infractions and 30 seat belt violations.

The Combined Traffic and Community Safety Initiative also issued 207 warnings to motorists and impounded three vehicles for 30 days.
