Riders focused on winning next game, not playoffs: Jones

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have a playoff spot locked up, but that doesn’t mean they’re slacking for the rest of the regular season.

Riders head coach Chris Jones indicated he plans on having his starters out there for the regular season finale against the Edmonton Eskimos.

“We’re not worried about the playoffs, we’re worried about this football game, we’re going to play our best football that we possibly can play,” Jones said.

“The healthy bodies we have we’re going to send out there to compete against Edmonton.”

Quarterback Kevin Glenn, who has played 17 seasons in the CFL, said the decision to rest their starters is with the coaches and isn’t an easy one.

“I’ve been in this league long enough to know when you sit guys, it doesn’t help. And when you play guys, they may get hurt,” Glenn said.

One face the Riders were happy to see back at practice was Naaman Roosevelt.

The wide receiver took part in his first practice since suffering his second concussion of the 2017 season.

Roosevelt said he worked with coaching staff to ensure he was 100 per cent before taking the field again.

“I want to play every week. I want to get out here and play with my team and just try to help them in any way.”

According to Jones, Roosevelt will have to wait another week.

Along with Roosevelt, Jones ruled out running backs Trent Richardson and Cameron Marshall and linebacker Sam Eguavoen.
