N.B. residents eligible for flood damage relief

Aug 31, 2017 | 5:00 PM

Anyone in the Battlefords whose home was damaged by the severe rainfall earlier this month is eligible for assistance from the province.

North Battleford administration announced today that due to the severe rainfall on Aug. 8, residents can apply for assistance under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP).

To apply, residents must document the damages as much as possible with pictures, invoices, receipts and any other proof of payments to determine the extent of insurance coverage.

Businesses which also experienced flood damage may also be eligible for assistance. The city advises business owners to contact PDAP for more information.

Residents can pick up an application form at city hall. Gardens, lawns and landscaping are not eligible under PDAP.

The city said property owners should take measures to protect their property by ensuring the ground slopes away from structures, install window wells for basements, gutters to lead water away from the foundation and build retaining walls or landscaped berms.

The city added there may be assistance through the Flood Damage Reduction Program for landscapes. The program is provided through the Water Security Agency and aids with emergency flood protection measures for communities at risk of flooding.
