Busy weekend for Battlefords RCMP

Jan 15, 2017 | 3:00 PM

Battlefords RCMP had a busy weekend. The local detachment responded to 125 calls for service, including an armed break-and-enter and an assault which left a young girl in hospital.

Break-and-enter leads to armed theft

RCMP responded to a break-and-enter and theft at a city residence early Saturday morning.

Three male suspects kicked open the door of a home in the 700 block of 101st St. RCMP said the three suspects were masked with bandanas, and one was armed with what appeared to be a long-barreled firearm. Three televisions were stolen from the property along with prescription medication.

The trio of thieves fled on foot, but RCMP believe they had a vehicle waiting from them.

Police responded to three other break-and-enters over the weekend. One occurred at a seasonal residence on Donald Cres. in Cochin, another at a residence on the Moosomin First Nation, and the third in the 800 block of 108th St. in North Battleford.

RCMP said they are investigating all four incidents.

Moosomin girl hospitalized after assault

Battlefords RCMP are looking for four suspects after an assault on the Moosomin First Nation Saturday left a 15-year-old girl in hospital.

Police are seeking two adult males, a female and a male youth in connection with the assault. All four suspects are believed to be from the Moosomin First Nation.

RCMP responded to five other assaults over the weekend. Three of the attacks happened in North Battleford, while two others occurred on the Moosomin and Saulteaux First Nations.

Three facing charges after dangerous driving, false report

Battlefords RCMP tried to conduct a traffic stop on a reportedly-stolen truck early this morning. Instead of stopping the vehicle attempted to evade police and was “driving in a reckless and dangerous manner, possibly to avoid the driver being found driving while impaired.”

In their investigation RCMP determined the theft was falsely reported, and charges are now pending against the 20-year-old Cut Knife man who owned the truck, the 19-year-old North Battleford man who was driving, and a 19-year-old North Battleford woman who was in the vehicle and allegedly assisted in attempting to falsify the theft.

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to contact Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
