Senior hockey weekend roundup

In senior hockey action over the weekend, the first home contest at the Civic Centre for Meota of the SPHL was a lively battle between the Combines and Edam’s Three Stars, with the Combines falling just short 5-4.

The loss means they are still looking for their first win of the season, at 0-2 so far this year, while Edam is now a perfect 3-0.

SPHL leading scorer Mitch Wall had two goals in the game, bringing his season point total to 15 in just three games.

The Battleford Beaver Blues also came up short this weekend, falling 7-5 on the road to the Shellbrook Silvertips for their first loss of the season. They are 2-1 this season and will play Cut Knife on Tuesday evening on the road.

Other SPHL scores had the Silvertips also taking down the Maymont Settlers 7-3 on Friday, the Radisson Wheatkings winning 7-5 over the Glaslyn North Stars and the Spiritwood Timberwolves crushing the Wheatkings 7-2.

In the SWHL, the defending champion Wilkie Outlaws remained undefeated after narrowing beating the Luseland/Dodsland Mallards 2-1 on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the Kerrobert Tigers fell 8-4 to the Eatonia Huskies and the Biggar Nationals took down the Kindersley Red Lions 5-2.

The losses on Saturday for Kerrobert and Kindersley were preceded by wins on Friday, as Kerrobert won 6-4 over Biggar and Kindersley scored eight in an 8-6 win over the Maclin Mohawks. The Mallards also won on Friday, taking down the Huskies 8-7 in overtime.
