Battleford candidate wants to work for residents

Oct 25, 2016 | 2:00 PM

A first time Battleford council candidate said he’d like to keep his town on the right track.

Kevin Russell is a newcomer to town politics and said he’s running to serve his community. Russell and his family have lived in Battleford since 1999.

“To be a part of the community I live in and keep it going in the direction I feel it’s going in; a good direction,” he said.

Russell works in sales at Valley Ford and has been a member of the Battleford Fire Department for the last decade. He is also a board member for the Battlefords AAA Midget Stars and the Battleford Parks and Recreation Department.

“What I want to do is see through that there is a post office downtown, keep our taxes on a level that they have been trending and help get some crime resolved in our community,” he said.

Russell added an additional ice surface would serve the community well, because as a hockey coach he knows ice times are at a premium. He said his children play hockey early in the morning to ensure ice times.
