Culture Days ahead in N.B.

Sep 16, 2016 | 12:00 PM

It’s a time of culture in North Battleford with activities celebrating art created by locals.

Culture Days is coming up in North Battleford on Saturday Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. across the city.

Curator and Manager of Galleries for North Battleford Leah Garven said during the event there will be an Artisan Market set up along the Art Walk between the Allen Sapp Gallery and the Don Ross Centre.

“We’re inviting people, crafters, artists, seamstresses, bakers to come and set up a table along the promenade with us,” Garven said.

Interested creators can register a table with the Allen Sapp Gallery and it is free to do so.

In addition, Culture Days coincides with a special anniversary of the Allen Sapp Gallery building.

“2016 and 2017 is the 100th birthday of the Carnegie Library, the building that the Allen Sapp Gallery is situated in,” Garven said. “A hundred years old from construction and that also means North Battleford has had a library for 100 years so it’s a great time to celebrate.”

Along with the Artisan Market, Garven said there are other events planned across the city including a “Cultural Carousel” at the Gallery near the Don Ross Centre and Flashpoint At The ARC II at the ARC Creative Studios.

“We have a story time planned over at the North Battleford Library, bread making and jam making at the Co-op Aquatic Centre and First Nations and cultural events over at the Allen Sapp Gallery,” she said.

The bread making takes place on Friday, Sept. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and there are plans for a Cultural Craft Night at the Territorial Alliance Church gym also on Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Garven said the events at the Allen Sapp Gallery include dancers and bannock making with support from Kanaweyimik Child and Family Services and Walking With Our Sisters volunteers.
