UPDATE: Province conducting internal review into escaped youth, one back in custody

UPDATE: One escaped youth has been located and arrested by RCMP.

The 17-year-old was arrested Thursday, Oct. 27 and charged with possession of a weapon and escaping the North Battleford Youth Centre on Sept. 9.

He appeared in court Oct. 28 to face the charges.

Since he is again in custody, his identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Sundance Stacey Mentuck, who escaped with the youth on Sept. 9, is still at large.

The provincial government is conducting an internal review after two dangerous young offenders escaped custody.

Sundance Stacey Mentuck and another youth escaped from the North Battleford Youth Centre while on outside exercise Friday, Sept. 9.

Nicole Bereti, communications consultant for the Ministry of Justice, said via email an internal review will look into the details of how they escaped. The review will also determine whether changes are required to improve security at the facility.

The offenders are considered dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information about their whereabouts should contact RCMP immediately.
