Fun run raises $500 for local charity

More runners than ever before participated in an annual marathon, and with the success the event had  collecting donations for a charity, organizers say they’ll be back next year.

The Eighth Annual Fin Island Trail Run was held on Saturday, Aug. 27. For the first time in its existence, the run allowed a charity to set up and accept donations. The Battlefords Boys and Girls club raised $500 during the run. Jes Kohut was one of the organizers and said the run will continue with charities in the future.

“We thought it’d be a great opportunity for a local charity to fundraise,” Kohut said. “Before, we were more focused on organizing the run but now that we have it down pat we feel more comfortable doing things like this. We will definitely look into doing it again next year. I don’t see why we wouldn’t.”

Kohut said the fun run doesn’t include prizes but nearly everyone participating got a free t-shirt. She said they average 100 to 120 runners, but this year they had 180.
