Windy and dry conditions are fueling a wildfire four km northeast of La Loche.

Dennis Truman, Manager of the Provincial Fire Centre in Prince Albert, said the fire is six square km in size.

"We've got crews and heavy equipment supported by helicopters on that fire. Smoke from the fire may be a concern for the La Loche area," he said.

He said there is no current threat to the community or consideration for evacuations.

"With the precipitation through the central part of the province, we've had good success with the initial attack," Truman said.

The La Loche area wildfire was one of 43 burning in the province on Tuesday, all but five are listed as contained.

There have been 309 fires this year to date compared with 554 at this time last year.
