The Regina Airport Authority is looking for a new regular flight to the U.S.

The Regina Airport Authority is looking for a new direct flight to the United States.  This comes on the heels of news that the airport will be losing its regular flight to Minneapolis at the end of July.

Dick Graham the President and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority says that the authority believes it is important to have a regular international flight.

“We want a trans border service, it’s important to business, it’s important to the economy of southern Saskatchewan.”

Graham said that the airport is actively trying to find a replacement for the soon to be discontinued flight.

As a part of this effort officials from the airport went down to Denver for the Jumpstart airport conference.  Graham described the conference as something like speed dating for airlines and airports.

“We met with a dozen airlines and many airports that we can partner with to look at opportunities.”

Graham said that some key airlines are considering the business case of providing a trans border flight to Regina.  Graham said he hoped to have some follow up meetings with some of these carriers in the next 3 weeks.

However the airport is not just looking to the U.S. to potentially fill the void.  Graham said they have spoken to Air Canada and West Jet.

“We Certainly made very clear pitches to both and they understand that there will be a lot of love in the community for any airline that wants to find a trans border replacement for us.”
