Lego Club to supply building blocks for imagination

Jun 26, 2016 | 9:46 AM

A program aimed at nurturing the creative minds of children is going to be running a lot more often.

Starting this summer, the North Battleford Library will hold Lego Club every week.

“It’s a fun and creative thing for kids to do on a Wednesday afternoon,” Korrine Heyden, children’s librarian, said. “It’s a place for them to come and feel safe because they can build anything and no one is going to tell them ‘no you shouldn’t build that.’ It’s also to help their imagination grow.”

Heyden will be posting pictures of the children’s creations on a bulletin board at the end of each week. She plans to create a Facebook page for Lego Club, which has kids and their parents excited.

“The parents like to get in on it too. We’ve gotten some pretty cool and interesting things from them. We try to aim for ages five to 13 but we’ve had kids as young as three and as old as 16, so it really doesn’t matter. I’ve been asked about an adult Lego Club and I’m looking into it,” Heyden said.

Heyden also said if kids don’t enjoy playing with Lego, it’s still a great way to get them into the library and check their other programs.

Lego Club will run every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the North Battleford Library starting in July. Heyden encourages people to bring their own Legos if they’d like but they do have supplies. They will accept Lego donations as well.
