Museum unveils building almost 100 years in the making

A local family with a long history has been immortalized in the unveiling of a new building. The Fred Light Museum cut the ribbon to officially open the Andersen Woodworking building in Battleford Saturday May 28.

“The building was donated to the museum in memory of my grandpa and my dad,” Floyd Andersen, chair of the Fred Light Museum board, said. “I thought it’d be a great place to put their tools and stuff that I didn’t want to just throw in the garbage.”

The building is meant to have the same look and feel of the original building the Andersen Family put up back in 1927. Construction started last fall and cost $23,000. Half of the cost was donated and the rest was paid by the museum.

The idea to construct the building came up during an Andersen family gathering and quickly took flight. “The building was up just before Christmas last year and from there we had to set all the displays up and its open today. So it took about a year,” Andersen said.
