Nominations open for 2016 MLBEX Awards

Nomination season is open for the Meadow Lake 2016 Business Excellence Awards.

Six awards for six different categories are up for grabs: volunteer, business, small business and Aboriginal business of the year awards, as well as awards for exceptional customer service, community builder of the year.

The awards are given through the Chamber of Commerce, and have been handed out for the past 10 years. Nominations are submitted by local businesses or community members.

Once the nominations have been received, a selection committee (separate from the Chamber of Commerce, gets locked in a room and go through the nominations, according to Chamber vice-president Geoff Barton.

To be eligible for the Business of the Year award, the business must have been in the community for a year. They must also have proven to be an economic force in Meadow Lake, providing new jobs, success and stability.

The Small Business of the Year award is reserved for businesses with five or fewer employees.

Any individual nominated for the Community Builder award must have made long-term commitments to Meadow Lake and serve as a role model for the city.

The nomination period closes Feb. 24.

Nomination forms for the 2016 Business Excellence Awards can be printed off from meadowlakechamber.com (link: http://www.meadowlakechamber.com/2016-mlbex-awards-info.html). Paper copies can also be picked up by visiting RBC, CIBC, or Innovation Credit Union in Meadow Lake.

A gala banquet at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre will be held Mar. 16 to celebrate the award winners, their staff and their families.

Mentalist Jeff Richards will entertain after the award ceremony to put on a show. Vice-president of the Chamber Geoff Barton said “It’s going to be a really wicked show.”

Tickets are available for $50 at the Chamber office.
