While wildfires continue to rage in Alberta, the Battleford fire chief is assuring residents the number of fires in the area is substantially lower than in previous years.

“This year – believe it or not – has been one of our slower years in recent memory,” Larry Gabruch said.

Fire ban, forecast improving wildfire threat in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan's wildfire situation remains severe but the weather forecast could improve things. 

As of Monday morning, 17 fires were burning in the province - all human caused. Fortunately there is no direct threat to communities near those blazes.
