The healing can now begin for the family and friends of Heidi Veit after her estranged husband Wesley John Veit plead guilty to second degree murder in her shooting death in March of 2017 and he will now spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Fire department puts out small fire at hotel construction site

North Battleford Fire Department firefighters put out a small fire in a new hotel building under construction off Carlton Trail Thursday afternoon.

Battlefords RCMP and WPD Ambulance also attended, while NB community safety officers controlled traffic.  

Three more municipalities have issued a cautionary fire ban in the region including the RM of Glaslyn, Round Hill and Parkdale Village.

More fire bans issued in local municipalities

Three more municipalities have issued a cautionary fire ban in the region on Tuesday.  

The RM of Glaslyn, Round Hill and Parkdale Village have all banned open fires until further notice which also includes barrel fires, fire pits, fireworks and grass burning.

House destroyed in grass fire, no injuries reported

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a grass fire which destroyed a vacant house on Saturday.

The fire occurred on the Saulteaux First Nation and not Moosomin First Nation as first reported.

Local fire departments want to avoid scenes like this from happening in the area this spring and as a result areas such as Medstead, Meadow Lake and the Battlefords have all issued a fire ban until further notice.

Medstead joins Battlefords and Meadow Lake and issues fire ban

Dry and windy conditions have forced yet another regional municipality to issue a temporary fire ban in the area.

The RM of Medstead Fire Chief Gerald Boyd said outdoor grass fires, burning barrels, fire pits and fireworks are prohibited until further notice.

Man dies in rollover near Cando Saturday

Battleford's RCMP report a 34-year-old man died in an SUV rollover near Cando on Saturday. 

Cpl. Clint Kondra said around 6 p.m. on April 21 first responders were called to an accident on a rural grid road off Highway 4, South of North Battleford.
