Local teachers named for McDowell Foundation award

It's an exciting time for a team of teachers at John Paul II Collegiate who are named for this year’s McDowell Foundation Award for work on a new student program at the school.

The award is granted for outstanding contributions to educational research in the province of Saskatchewan.

Extreme weather causes bus and school closures

The extreme cold weather is playing havoc with some buses in the area. As a result the following buses and school have reported interuptions in service.
 
- All North Battleford and Battleford, Cut Knife, Leoville, Spiritwood and Medstead bus routes are cancelled.

North Battleford eligible for 2 marijuana retail outlets; town eligible for 1

The Saskatchewan government has announced with the upcoming legalization of marijuana, North Battleford will be allowed to have two retail marijuana stores and the Town of Battleford will be allowed one retail store. The City of Meadow Lake is also eligible for one cannabis retail location.

Fraudulent emails such as this are just one of the many scams local residents have been facing in recent weeks. Whether its phone calls from scammers looking for donations or emails claiming you owe money, RCMP advise you to be cautious before giving any personal information out to anyone.

It looks as if fraudulent emails and telephone calls are once again making their rounds where people are seeking personal information or donations on behalf of different agencies including the RCMP.

Administration at North Battleford city hall is waiting for the province to take its first steps before making any decisions on preparing for the Canada-wide legalization of marijuana expected July 1.

Beginning today, anyone interested in securing a seasonal site in one of the 19 Saskatchewan provincial parks like Cochin (pictured here) can submit a lottery application online. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 1 and the lottery takes place Feb. 5.
