Coby Downs’ return gives North Stars a huge boost

After playing five games for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL, former North Stars forward Coby Downs has decided to return to his old team North of the border for the 2016-17 season.

North Stars diffuse Bombers for second straight game

The follow up to Friday’s barn burner at the Whitney Forum was an equally entertaining and more physically demanding encore Saturday night with the North Stars walking away with their second consecutive win.

Though the final score was 3-0, it was a close game every inch of the way.

North Stars top Bombers 4-3 in barn burner shootout

Resilient is the best word to describe the North Stars’ 4-3 shootout win over the Flin Flon Bombers on Friday night.

It was a strong first period for the Stars, with a power play snipe from Levi Kleiboer and a rebound goal from Owen Lamb to put them up 2-0.

Gerein’s versatility invaluable to North Stars

When star forward Layne Young was hurt last week, the man to replace him on the top power play unit was Troy Gerein.

A native of Saskatoon who played his minor hockey in Wilkie, Gerein is a gritty player who loves dishing out hits.

But he’s also versatile.

Cameco Hockey Day in Saskatchewan set for two communities

For the first time ever, Cameco Hockey Day in Saskatchewan will hit two communities in the same weekend.

Both Shellbrook and Pinehouse were chosen to host the annual celebration, which is set for the week of Jan. 16 to 22.

North Stars’ second period push enough to down Mustangs

Make it three times now over the past nine days that the North Stars defeated the Melfort Mustangs.

Tuesday’s 3-1 victory at the Civic Centre follows Saturday’s 4-0 thumping, which in turn was just six days after last Saturday’s 4-0 shutout win.
