North Battleford Water Doves head coach Sheila Parker was given the 2017 female coach dedication award from Sask Sport last night at an awards gala in Saskatoon.

Rookie forward Elijah Loon-Stewardson scored his first career playoff goal in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, netting the overtime winner that catapulted the Battlefords North Stars to the second round of the playoffs.

Keith Anderson, Cody Spagrud and Connor Manegre have all been physical this series against the Weyburn Red Wings, who are now on the brink of elimination, down 3-0 to the North Stars.

There was a bit of nastiness in game three between the Battlefords North Stars and Weyburn Red Wings on Tuesday night, which ended in a 4-1 win for Battlefords thanks to two empty-net goals.

They had to kill off penalty after penalty all night long and also had a goal called back for a high-stick, but nonetheless the Battlefords North Stars persevered on Tuesday night at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn, taking down the Red Wings in game three by a 4-1 score.

Combines force decisive game 5 in SPHL finals thanks to 4-1 win

There will be a game five in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League finals after all.

The Meota Combines defeated the Hafford Hawks 4-1 in game four last night at the Civic Centre to tie the series 2-2.

It was the first game of the finals that wasn't decided by one goal.

Game two between the Battlefords North Stars and Weyburn Red Wings on Saturday night was certainly supposed to be much closer than game one, but for North Stars fans, it was a little bit too close for comfort.

The Battlefords North Stars physically outmatched a younger Weyburn Red Wings team in a 5-1 win on Friday night to open up their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League quarter-final playoff series at the Civic Centre.

After a week off, the Battlefords North Stars will kick off their quarter-final playoff series tonight against the Weyburn Red Wings at the Civic Centre.
