The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s stop in North Battleford was a success last weekend.

Forty-eight golfers took part in seven different divisions in the tournament, which was held at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club. One local golfer, Colby Friedrich from the Battlefords, placed in the Juvenile Boys 15-16 division.

Friedrich, 16, made the most of his opportunities in the tournament by capturing the MJT Juvenile Boys’ Hoselton trophy with a two-day total of 161, shooting 80 in round one and 81 in day two. Friedrich was one shot back heading into the second day as Chase Gedak of Estevan held the lead, but Gedak fell off and shot an 87 in his second day.

“It feels good to win again, especially at my home course. I’ve been struggling to win so the breakthrough is nice,” Friedrich said.

Other winners in the tournament included Darien Herlick of Weyburn in the peewee boys’ division, Will Blake of Regina in the bantam boys’ division, Griffin Wilson of Swift Current in the junior boys’ division, Dakota Smith of Edmonton in the collegiate division, Carey McLean of Deer Valley in the girls’ 15-18, and Brookly Fry of Shell Lake in the girls’ under-15 division.

The next stop on the tour is Saskatoon on June 30 and July 1 at the Moon Lake Golf and Country Club.
