A 19-year-old defenceman from the Battlefords North Stars was one of 10 players selected by the Humboldt Broncos to bolster their lineup. The Broncos franchise is rebuilding after the tragic April 6 bus crash that left 16 members of the organization dead and 13 others injured.

The Saskatchewan Junior A Hockey League’s board of governors previously announced each team would open their roster to the Broncos to help the team replenish their lineup and be ready for the 2018-2019 season.

Rearguard Connor Smith, who played 43 regular season games with the Battlefords North Stars, was among those selected by the Broncos. The 6’10” 180 lb. Smith had just four assists last year with the Stars and played in six postseason games.

Among the other players selected Monday were Kyle Sergeant from Yorkton, Jessie Young from Weyburn, Austin Mikesch from Nipawin, Ahmed Ally of Notre Dame, Shane Hounsell of La Ronge, Ethan Kopyczyn, Bryson Cecconi of Kindersley and Eric McNeilly and Ayden Third of Melfort.
