May 29, 2018 | 2:00 PM

The Battlefords RCMP arrested a suspect near North Battleford Comprehensive High School after an alleged bear spray assault.

According to RCMP, officers responded to a complaint of an assault with a weapon at a location on the 1700-block of 110th St. Tuesday. Two suspects were interacting with a small group of people at the scene, RCMP said, when one of the two suspects fired a can of bear spray at the group.

When the RCMP arrived they took the suspect who allegedly used the bear spray into custody. Paramedics also attended and treated the victims of the assault for mild irritation from the stinging spray. The second suspect fled the scene and has yet to be located.

The RCMP said the location of the assault was near North Battleford Comprehensive High School, but there was no direct threat to the school. The investigation is ongoing, RCMP said, and criminal charges are pending.
