Relay for Life luminary ceremony a symbol of hope

May 7, 2018 | 10:15 AM

The lighting of the luminaries along the walking track at Battlefords Relay for Life is a moving experience for many.

Since Relay for Life’s inception in 2002, the luminary ceremony serves as an opportunity to remember those taken by cancer and to honour those who are still fighting or who have conquered the disease.

“It truly is an emotional experience for everyone involved,” Battlefords Relay for Life Co-Chair Kelly Murdoch said. “When we light the luminaries just as it turns dark, they light up the rack for those walking for the rest of the night.”

The luminaries are being sold until the Relay for Life June 8 at the City Field in North Battleford’s Centennial Park, Murdoch said.
