The healing can now begin for the family and friends of Heidi Veit after her estranged husband Wesley John Veit plead guilty to second degree murder in her shooting death in March of 2017 and he will now spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The sentence was handed down on Friday in Battleford Court of Queen’s Bench by Justice Gerald Albright after he accepted a joint submission from both the Crown and defence.

The 47-year-old Veit was originally charged with first degree murder after the body of Heidi was found in her home in the R.M. of Buffalo near Wilkie on March 27, 2017 however on Friday, he pleaded guilty to second degree murder which carries a life sentence and he will not be eligible for parole for 18 years.

The murder of Heidi Veit sent shockwaves throughout the tight knit regional municipality as family, friends and colleagues praised the popular educational assistant with the Living Sky School Division as someone who loved life and treated everyone with respect.
