Fire department puts out small fire at hotel construction site

May 4, 2018 | 8:00 AM

North Battleford Fire Department firefighters put out a small fire in a new hotel building under construction off Carlton Trail Thursday afternoon.

Battlefords RCMP and WPD Ambulance also attended, while NB community safety officers controlled traffic.

Deputy Fire Chief Lindsay Holm said sparks from welding work at the new Comfort Inn appeared to have caused a fire in the retaining wall of a suite on the fifth floor of the building. He said firefighters contained the fire and quickly extinguished it.

The building was evacuated at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, Holm added. He said the building will need to have some work done to repair the suite, though the damage was not major.
